Art is my way of communicating. I find I can't always express what I'm thinking with spoken word and that creating and experimenting help me process my own thoughts as well as connect with those around me. It also provides an escape for me from the noise of everyday life. I can work and create in collaboration with other people, but I can also get delve deep into my own head and create in solitude.
I mainly work in photography because I like the technical aspect as well as the creative. I have this machine that becomes an extension of myself. I make calculations of light, color, time, composition, and framing. I then tell the camera what to do and it captures a moment in time in an instant, making it stand still forever. This process becomes almost magical for me when working with analog and alternative processes in the way images appear on paper seemingly out of nowhere. There's a feeling of joy in learning a new photographic process that has no comparison for me. So far I've worked in 35mm, medium and large format film, color film, cyanotype, Van Dyke Brown, anthotype, wet plate collodion, and printing on fabric, glass, and metal.
